Just after all senators were sworn in on the 8th September, the next task was to elect the Speaker of the Senate in a secret ballot.
In the ballot, were Amason Kingi and Kalozo Musyoka from Kenya Kwanza and Azimio respectively. Mr. Clerk, who is moderating the sitting was just about to stir the beginning of the process when he highlighted that the Azimio candidate, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka had stepped down from the race. This saw several senators from the affiliated divide leave the Senate Chambers.
Earlier, Kalonzo had submitted papers so as to vie for the the speaker of the National Assembly position but later withdrew so as to run for the Senate speaker role, which also he has withdrawn the last minute.
This as come as a surprise for both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza senators who were in the building.
The election of the Speaker is however ongoing regardless of the walking out of some senators from Azimio.
